Chiefs, church, women and youth leaders from communities in and around Honiara have conveyed their deep appreciation for the efforts of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) to return peace and stability to the country over the past 14 years.
The more than 40 community leaders were attending a meeting organised by the Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace to discuss how community leaders could assist with peace programs in the capital Honiara.
Senior officers of the Solomon Islands Government, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and RAMSI briefed the community leaders on preparations for RAMSI’s exit in June this year and why they and their communities should now have confidence in RSIPF to take care of the security of the country.
The community leaders said they have confidence in the RSIPF and welcomed the roll out of the Crime Prevention Strategy.
They agreed that the future of Solomon Islands was now the responsibility of all its citizens.
