Less than 10 beds available
THE Correctional Centre at Rove is reportedly full.
Principal Magistrate Fatima Taeburi raised this issue last Friday when a defence indicated making a bail application for his client.
Ms Taeburi then urged Public Solicitor’s lawyer Clifton Ruele to submit the bail application due to lack of space at Rove.
She said Correctional Centre authorities have informed them the prison is full.
A prison officer in court on Friday confirmed this when asked by Ms Taeburi about this issue.
He said some remandees went in on Friday and there were only about eight to 10 beds left.
Mr Ruele’s client, who was facing an unlawful wounding charge, was released on a cash bail of $500, attached with strict bail conditions.
Commissioner of Correctional Service of Solomon Islands Francis Haisoma was away on leave when his office was contacted yesterday.
Calls made to the acting commissioner were not answered.
