Court issues warrant of arrest for MP Marau
A MAGISTRATE on Tuesday issued a warrant of arrest for the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs William Marau to appear in court over an alleged traffic related charge.
This was after Marau, the MP for Ulawa/Ugi, failed to show up in court.
Marau faces one count of presence of alcohol in a person’s blood.
Although his matter was listed for yesterday, he failed to show up, prompting Principal Magistrate Ricky Iomea to issue a warrant for his arrest.
The warrant will be reviewed on April 11.
Marau was charged after police conducted a Random Breathalyzer Test (RBT) on him on 4 March 2017, in front of the Central Police Station.
Police stopped him in a RAV4 vehicle he was driving and conducted the first test where they found positive with a reading of 0.145 percent.
He was taken to the Central Police Station where a second test was conducted, which resulted in a reading of 0.132 percent.
Since the readings were both positive, police charged Marau and have him bailed to appear in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor Mosese Tetoa is prosecuting.
