Dear Editor – I refer to the article ‘Unhappy Patient’, published in your newspaper on 20 March 2017.
The article called on the responsible authority to ensure that medical teams visiting the Solomon Islands are able to carry out their tasks responsibly.
As the responsible authority for registering and supervising doctors and dentists in the Solomon Islands, the Medical and Dental Board wants to assure the community that this is already the case.
All doctors and dentists who come to the Solomon Islands are rigorously screened to ensure their qualifications and experience are of an appropriate level according to local and international standards.
It is impossible to entirely remove the risk of complications from medical practice.
The Medical and Dental Board’s number one priority is ensuring that this risk is reduced by giving Solomon Islanders access to doctors and dentists of the highest possible quality.
The community can feel confident knowing that visiting medical teams meet these same high standards.
