FUTSAL fans and supporters will have another opportunity to watch spectacular futsal action featuring renowned Honiara based champion clubs, including few provincials champion clubs and a champion’s team from Vanuatu.
The competition called Wantok Futsal Challenge 2017 tournament will be staged in Honiara next month April 8 to 15 at the Multipurpose Hall.
Tournament Manager Thomas Kalola confirmed this to Star Sports in an interview.
“This competition will feature 16 teams,’’ he said.
“Most of the teams are champions in various leagues organized in Honiara as well as in our provinces,’’ he said.
“A champion’s team from Vanuatu will also come and compete in this competition,’’ Kalola said.
He said Wantok Challenge is an annual competition which was started in 2014 in Vanuatu.
“The competition was held two times in Vanuatu and this year the competition will be staged here in Honiara,’’ Kalola said.
He said winner of this year’s challenge will qualify to compete in next year’s Wantok Challenge that will be hosted in either Vanuatu or New Caledonia.
“Our next host country is yet to be confirmed, but it’s between Vanuatu and New Caledonia,’’ he said.
He said most of the clubs that will compete in this year’s challenge are equipped with current and former Kurukuru players including upcoming Kururkuru players.
Prizes for the competition are as follows:
1st a trophy and $10,000 cash plus 15 gold medals.
2nd $7,000 cash plus 15 silver medals
3rd $5,000 cash plus 15 bronze medals
Kalola added consolation prizes for golden boot, golden glove and fairest team will be awarded during the one-week competition.
