Two families counted themselves lucky when a vehicle veered off the road and stopped just in front of their homes in the early hours of Saturday at Lengakiki.
The incident happened at around 3am.
Bakana Longasaliu told the Sunday Star a mango tree in front of his house stopped the rolling hilux from destroying his house.
“We were awoken by the sound of this rolling vehicle and we came out only to see the owner trying to call for a tow truck,” he said.
“It didn’t eventuate because he was seen by the families as trying to show a clean pair of heels from the problem.”
Longasaliu said they saw two other people climbing out of the truck.
The vehicle veered off the road and rolled down the hill.
He said the occupants of the vehicle were also lucky to survive.
He added they have reported the matter to police.
