ONE Member of Parliament has incurred $400,000 in a month in phone calls, which tax payers will have to meet.
Clerk to the National Parliament Clezy Rore revealed this during the Public Accounts Committee meeting on the 2017 Supplementary Bill 2017 recently.
Mr Rore said the National Parliament is seriously concerned about the rising cost of telephone bills incurred by Members of Parliament.
He was responding to questions asked by PAC members on how the Telekom bills have risen from $1.1million to $2.5million.
Mr Rore said the cost of telecommunication has increased and his office is worried that the cost will continue to rise.
He said his office learnt that the rising costs were related to the use of roaming sim cards by Members of Parliament.
The Clerk to the National Parliament revealed that one MP was identified to have used $400,000 in one month.
However, Mr Rore explained that the additional $2.5million will add to the initial $1.1million and will total up to $3.6million.
The total supplementary bid for National Parliament is $6.65million.
Mr Rore said another $2.5 million is for parliament____s service contracts for the duration of one year.
He said the services expected are maintenance of building, carpet cleaning, termite, air conditioning and electricity, generator, plumbing and cleaning outside surrounding the parliament.
