Dear Editor – I wonder who is representing the private sector of Solomon Islands at this meeting.
Island Enterprises were the first company [and now the largest] to go into commercial pest control work and I have had a valid Australian Pest Managers licence since the mid 1980’s, we also have several other licenced staff working for us and maintain the Australian standard by visits from Australian training officers or by sending staff to overseas training.
No matter if you have a Ph.D. in agriculture or other profession you cannot practice as a pest manager in Australia unless you have qualifies as a pest manager.
I was a member of the Pacific Regional Agricultural Program [harmonising of quarantine procedures component] some years ago.
