THE Solomon Islands Students in Taiwan football club (SISAT FC) had on Saturday made history after scooping the second place, and being awarded the fairest team trophy in one of the prestigious annual soccer tournaments, The African Cup, which gathered teams from Swaziland, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Zambia, Haiti and Taiwan.
The eight teams that took part in last Saturday’s tournament have all been eyeing a place in the tournament which further boosts the competitiveness of the tournament.
Solomon Islands was pooled alongside the mighty Swaziland, Xizhi FC(Taiwan Hornets) and Jhubei FC.
The Island boys made a spectacular performance in their pool games leaving no stone unturned.
They thrashed Taiwan Hornets by 10 goals to 1, defeated Team Swazi by a goal to nil and comfortably walked past Jhubei FC by six goals to nil to conclude their pool matches.
The green, blue and yellow uniform continued their winning campaign when they denied the defending Champion, Burkina Faso from claiming a place in the semi-final.
The Juvia captained side showed an outstanding performance which stole the crowd from pool match, only to be bowed out in the grand final by the Swazi Stormers after a well fought match, a history in the making.
The so-called African Cup is an annual tournament and the boys are looking forward to throwing more into their preparations for next year’s tournament.
The rather dull Saturday was further graced by the presence of H.E. Solomon Islands Ambassador to Taiwan and family, who spent the whole of that afternoon cheering and encouraging our boys which is a rare opportunity for the boys.
The presence and support of other SI students studying here who showed up that day also brought the team’s fighting spirit together.
SISAT FC is also taking this opportunity to sincerely thank their families back home, fellow students here in Taiwan who couldn’t make it that day for their support in one way or another.
