Dear Editor – After many years of serving the people of Solomon Islands, the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) will be leaving our shores.
Its going to be a sad day for many of us.
RAMSI had done well to assist our country recover from the ethnic crisis.
I personally salute their work in our country.
Thanks to RAMSI our country has enjoyed peace, law and order now. My children are enjoying their education and health services.
Had it not been for RAMSI, I guess I will still be struggling and hiding somewhere.
But RAMSI had come to our rescue and now we are living in a stable environment.
They also helped to restore the statues of our police force.
We are so luck to have them here. But June 30 will be their last day here.
As such I’m suggesting to the government especially Cabinet to consider Friday 30th June 2017 as a special public holiday.
To honour their contribution to our country, lets allow this special holiday so that everyone of us especially in Honiara and even in the provinces can come out in numbers to witness the event and say farewell to them.
Our presence and turnout at the main event on Friday – 30th June will no doubt show how we appreciate their work.
This is a one off event and this country won’t celebrate such a special event because am sure peace will prevail.
But for now, its up to the government to decide.
