A JOINT traffic operation between the Guadalcanal Police and Honiara traffic police are being conducted at Burns creek in East Honiara to crack down on unlicensed drivers, expired vehicles and illegal transport providers within the G-Province boundary.
This was witnessed by the Solomon Star since last week, where police officers inspect vehicles believed to be expired or driven by unlicensed drivers or operating taxi or bus service without the G. Province license.
Speaking to this paper, Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Nixon Manetogha said the check point at Burns Creek is a normal traffic check by police, which also include G.Province police that inspect licenses for Taxis and Buses that operate business outside of the town boundary.
He said traffic check will continue.
PPC also said that those who operate taxis and buses and the market trucks within the territories of the province, like in Lunga and Henderson, must visit the G-Province office to pay up their licenses.
He confirmed that 12 cases were reported to appear in court during the operation since last week.
He added that transport providers within areas under the jurisdiction of G-Province must pay up license before operating taxi or bus services in Guadalcanal.
Further, he warned unlicensed drivers and expired vehicles which continue to operate at the suburbs of Honiara that they will be charged under the traffic laws, once they are caught.
