HONIARA City Council (HCC) has been called on to consider constructing of ‘bus stop shelters’ at the Central Market Bus bays to accommodate people from scorching sun and rain while waiting for public.
The concern has been raised by a good number of passengers waiting for transport (bus) at the Central Market bus stop on Tuesday.
“Constructing bus stop sheds (houses) at the two bus bays is a must thus something the responsible authorities including HCC to consider it.
“We cannot stand the heat of the sun when it reach noon and even during rainy times we have nowhere to hide,” they said.
While appreciating the JICA and government of Japan for funding the project, MID, HCC and Traffic Police support towards the project implementation, they said that building of bus stop shelters is important to house people from the heat and rain while waiting for a bus.
“It is sad to see people stand tip-toe and endure the heat from the cement blocks (slab) and sun when it (sun) getting hotter during the day.
“Initiating a bus stop shed is a must and something the HCC must consider implementing it,” they pleaded.
Meanwhile, following the opening of the two bus bays and the underpass at the Central Market fortnight ago, city residents have seen enjoy the smooth flow of traffic throughout the past days.
