Dear Editor – Our past MP seems to deny our existence on that level without any second thought.
I remember an additional constituency was debated in the National Parliament, instead, different MPs were supporting that motion, while our own MP had his own agenda.
And let me quote his famous statement “I don’t support this additional constituency, but if Bellona wants to vote me out, then vote me out,” end quote.
He was voted out and I hope he regretted his statement.
Now, our current MP has almost repeated the same mistake.
Instead of defending his people up there, he made this comment in the social media in relation to the Health Care Center Project Tender in Renbel.
He claimed that his people (contractors) in Rennell and Bellona are incapable and failed group, an assumption that was very unfortunate and lacked ethic.
Again, I have no objection to that award, however, I still believe that cannot deny the fact that this is our share.
In other words, the opportunity should be reserved or given to our people to actually involve and participate in our infrastructure development, and more so, the fund should allow to remain and circulate in our province and constituency for other purposes and beneficiaries.
What I failed to see your view to give away this project, rather than our own contractors. MP, if you cannot trust your own people, and disallowed our own people to participate and involved in the infrastructure development in our own constituency, then at least you have any plan for your human resources development in our constituency?
If you don’t have any plan to improve our human resources skills and experiences in this industry, then that is very regrettable and does not reflect well on you.
Finally, no matter how much you tried to discredit our local contractors from Renbel, they deserved those contract works basically because this is our share and our project.
It was very unfortunate that our MP was not with us, but that cannot justified the fact that we have many credible contractors from Renbel.
Director and TA, what I can suggest here is that put your priority criteria on financial health of the company out and replace that with the original contractor from that region to be the priority selection criteria.
The reason being, director and TA, the project has been budgeted for and the fund should be secured.
Whether that contractor is financially health, it is not the business of that poor company to fund that full project.
Secondly, the original contractor from that region should be prioritized because that is their project and we should allow those unless they are totally incapable or hopeless.
I still believe it would give the people of that province or region the pride and honor to really participate and involve in our infrastructure development.
In a way you will promote equal share and fair distribution of our resources and wealth among our own people.
