The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has denied claims it had incurred $900,000 in monthly bills for the use of telephones and fax late last year.
And the Office vowed to make a formal response later.
The Office denied the claims following information being leaked to a largest social networking group which attracted heavy criticism.
In a brief response the Special Secretary to Prime Minister (SSPM) John Muria told this paper the claims are incorrect.
The SSPM said the Office will get back with substantive information on the request to clarify the matter should media allow them reasonable time to respond.
According to leaked information, it stated that PMO continuous to expend around $900,000.00 per month on telephone and faxes, but is not known if internet charges are included or paid separately.
The information revealed the following summary disseminated to senior officials of the PMO early this year;
“We have been incurring about $904,833.12 on average per month for previous 6 months from August 2016 to Jan 2017.
“If we continue on this trend then the balance of $3.5million we should have left now will be used up in the next 3 months.
“On January 2017 alone, we incurred $118,542.00 on Samsung S7 handsets”, the leaked information stated.
The public was concerned that tax payers will foot the bill.
It was worrying as well that the amount spent on Samsung handsets was expensive, thus the public demand PMO to tell the taxpayers of this country, the beneficiaries of these expensive Samsung S7 handsets.
