A CHINESE shop owner was rushed to the National Referral Hospital last night after he was slashed on the head with a bush knife in his shop along the Vura road, opposite the Kukum SDA School.
The robbery took place after two youths entered the JMY Shop at around 7pm.
The injury was reportedly serious, but not life-threatening, and the shop owner was believed to have been released after treatment.
The shop’s security guard, Peter Fereni, said the two robbers took off with an undisclosed amount of money after they attacked his boss.
“When they came in the shop, they went straight to the counter where the mobile phones were stored,” Mr Fereni said.
“I was outside the shop, while inside were two female shop keepers, my boss, one female shopper, and the two youths,” he added.
“They stood there staring at the mobile phones for about 10 minutes.
“Suddenly they pulled out long knives from under their shirts and one of them jumped over the counter and straight at the shop owner.
“The other one, also with a bush knife in his hand, came and stood in the doorway.
“I was unable to intervene because both of them were armed.”
Mr Fereni said the one who jumped over the counter slashed his knife at the cash till and the shop owner and then collected all the money in the till.
He said the two female shopkeepers and the female shopper escaped through the back door.
After emptying the till, the two came out and fled by foot up the Vura road.
Mr Fereni said the incident happened quite quickly, attracting little public attention until after the robbers left.
When police arrived at the scene, the two robbers have gone.
They only helped took the shop owner to hospital for treatment.
The shop has CCTV camera, which the police will use to identify the robbers.
