This week the country is farewelling the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
The week long event kicked off last Sunday with a Thanks-giving ceremony at the Maranatha Hall in East Honiara.
Throughout this week a number of activities have been lined up for the farewell program.
Its a time for everyone to come and be part of the goodbye event.
At the end of this week, the 14 years of RAMSI’s presence in the country will be history. And another chapter of our country’s record will be written.
In July 2003, we were so excited to welcome the first deployment of the RAMSI troops to quell the tense situation back then.
But this week we are sad because we preparing to bid them goodbye.
RAMSI’s tenure here will now be over.
Last Sunday, during the service, Prime Minister had acknowledged the role by RAMSI in saving our country from the ethnic crisis.
He said RAMSI had done alot for this country.
RAMSI has been a household name for many of our people.
Because of RAMSI, the law and order situation in the country has been restored.
Today, we are enjoying a more friendly environment than 14 years ago.
RAMSI’s departure means it is an opportunity for us to regain full control of our future.
Although there have been concerns over how the law and order situation would be like once RAMSI leaves, our police is ready to take on the role as our guardians.
To celebrate the achievement of RAMSI and bidding them goodbye, lets us all come out and be part of the programs being planned by the Solomon Islands government this week.
There are a number of events being planned for each day until Friday.
This morning there will be a march parade and more events will be held at the Art Gallery for all to attend.
So lets be part of these programs and learn more about their achievements and reflect on their work in this country.
