Dear Editor – I learned with a heavy heart the tragic death of 16 people from Uhu, Malaita, who lost their lives at sea more than a fortnight ago.
I’ve read in the media those people were on their way to Marau, east Guadalcanal, to raise funds for their church, when they met their fate.
I’ve also read in the media that both the Government and Opposition have expressed their sympathy to the families and relatives of the victims.
Let me also share my sympathy with those concerned.
Furthermore, I would like to suggest something here so that anyone with a heart could step out and join me in this initiative.
First, I want any leader from Uhu community to get in touch with me on my mobile phone: 7920886.
This is to discuss a proposal that I intend to organise in Honiara to raise funds for the people of Uhu community to help them build their church.
This idea came to mind after I realised that those who died in the boat tragedy did so in pursuit of raising funds for their church.
I believe those young people died for the sake of the gospel and for their church.
I also believe the best we Solomon Islanders could do for the community of Uhu at this tragic time is to raise funds and donate it towards their church.
To ensure the fundraising effort is not abused, I want to get any representatives from Uhu living in Honiara to contact me on the above mobile number.
I want the community leaders of Uhu to agree with the proposal before I can start orgainising it.
So my brothers and sisters of Uhu community, please do note that this is a genuine initiative, but I can only do it with your approval and involvement.
Again my mobile phone is: 7920886
I will come back again in the media with updates of the proposed fundraising after discussing the initiative with Uhu community reps.
