THE Solomon Cup 2017 tournament has reached its crucial stages as provincial teams battle for a spot in the top four position.
Traditional football powerhouse Malaita Eagles and Guadalcanal Hornets have had mixed results.
Defending champions Malaita Eagles had to settle for a draw in their opening match against Western Turtles.
The Eagles managed to soar with a hard fought 3-2 victory over an impressive Isabel Frigates side to put them in a safer state.
The 3 time champion were on course for another semi-final with at least a point in their final match against Makira will seal their fate.
Malaita Eagles will be aiming for a victory in their game against Renbel today to put pressure on Western Turtles.
On the other hand, Guadalcanal Hornets are heading for an early exit.
The 1994 champions lost all its opening 3 matches so far in the tournament.
Western Solomons teams are also in part of the chasing park for a semi-final place.
Western Turtles currently leading the so called ‘Pool of death’ with 7 points.
Turtles showed clash against both Makira and Malaita to swim away with 4 points.
The lads from Western strengthen their grip of top spot in Group B with a narrow win 2-1 over gallant Renbel side.
They will confirm a place in the last four with a win over Isabel today.
After match day 7, Group A still have four teams vying for a semi-final spot.
Central Shield and hosts Honiara are leading the four horse race group with 6 points each.
But group leaders Central Shields have two games in hand.
The Shields have their own destiny in their hands as a win in their next match against Lauru.
Temotu Arrows and Lauru are still in the mix as positive results in their remaining matches will decide their fate.
Group B matches will continue today as Malaita Eagles takes on Renbel Chiefs and Isabel Frigates plays Western Turtles.
