A Good number of coaches and fans alike have criticised poor officiating from referees in the 2017 Our Telekom Solomon Cup currently reaching its semi-finals this week.
There were big calls made in the group stage by referees which deemed unfair.
Match day 6 saw Renbel Chiefs head coach and a player were given their marching orders to leave the pitch.
Chiefs coach Moffatt Joel Konofilia assaulted the referee officiating that controversial encounter as a result of key decision made in the game.
Konofilia felt both decision went against his team and killed the game.
He said Solomon Cup is the national football tournament and match officials should be at their best.
Honiara Warriors coach Eddie Marahare also hit back at the referee after their 1 all draw with Temotu Arrows.
“I am not happy with the referee as most of his decision was one sided.
“I think the level of refereeing so far in the competition is very poor.
“Let’s take for example decisions that go against the Chiefs should have been fair to both teams,” Marahare said.
An Eagles fan, Alick Saru condemns the referee’s decision to award a soft penalty in favour of Real Kakamora.
“The referee shouldn’t award a penalty as both players went for a 50-50 ball and everybody who watched the match will agree with me that it was a header from the Eagles defender that saw the Makira player tumble to grown,” he said.
Recent Group A match between Central Shields and Temotu Arrows on Sunday saw fans reacted towards decisions made by the match officials.
Mr Saru calls on match officials who will be officiating in the semi-finals to carry out their jobs with fairness.
In a recent interview, Chairman of the Solomon Cup Organizing Committee, Eddie Omokirio calls on fans to show respect throughout the Solomon Cup.
“SIFF calls on public and any other teams and officials to show respect.
“FIFA wants football to be a game that people want to come and watch in a safe environment where they feel comfortable with and enjoy the matches.
“We must respect the rules, regulations, officials and each other.
“We must create a good football environment during competitions.
“Do not take the lead in provoking situations that will go out of hand,” Omokirio said.
