The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has thanked the huge crowds that have turned up for the games played so far in the Solomon Cup 2017 for their good behaviour and have appealed for the same during the rest of the games this week.
RSIPF’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gabriel Manelusi, who heads the police operation for the Solomon Cup 2017 games said: “I must thank the spectators who attended the games played so far and the spirit they have shown while watching the matches up to the weekend. No major incident has been reported.”
“I wish to appeal to those who are intending to go and watch the remaining matches up to the finals on Saturday this week to show the same spirit and enjoy the games. Your police will be out in force to ensure that families who attend the games enjoy themselves and those few people who intend to spoil the atmosphere are stopped immediately,” said DC Manelusi.
About 300 police officers will be involved in the operation for these remaining matches to ensure the games go well. The officers will be present in and outside the Lawson Tama stadium as well as patrolling the streets of Honiara.
Police will be checking that members of the public attending the games do not carry any alcohol, weapon or objects i.e. scissors, screw driver and other instruments that may be used as weapons. Such items will be confiscated by police.
Police will also remove any people selling goods including betel nuts, cigarettes and cooked food alongside the Lawson Tama perimeter fence.
The remaining games in the Solomon Cup 2017 include the two semi-finals on Tuesday and Wednesday this week followed by the Losers final on Friday and the grand final on Saturday 15 July.
