Solomon Islands Submarine Cable Company (SISCC) is in the process of sorting out the issue related to Huawei International, as part of the process of obtaining their Cable landing permits for Australia.
The company made the response following reports yesterday that Australian government intends to withhold issuing a landing permit to Australia because of the involvement by Huawei in the multi-million project.
In a statement yesterday SISCC said it wants to assure all its stakeholders that a solution is being sought by working with the main parties.
“In respond to the recent media coverage on the Submarine Cable Project, Solomon Islands Submarine Cable Company (SISCC) wish to confirm and assures all stakeholders that the Board and Management are working closely with the Solomon Islands Government and Australian Authorities to clarify the situation regarding its main supplier, Huawei International, as part of the process of obtaining their Cable landing permits for Australia.”
The statement said, SISCC was granted a Carrier License for Australia in May 2017.
“Following that, SISCC are working on the submission of a Permitted Zone Permit through the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to complete their permits to land the cable in Australia. Discussions with ACMA are on-going at the moment.”
The statement said, one aspect of the application will concern the equipment that is to be deployed and it is understood that concerns have been raised through diplomatic channels regarding Huawei.
“SISCC will endeavour to clarify and deal with these concerns in a timely manner.
“SISCC remains committed to delivering fast reliable fibre optic internet services to the Solomon Islands as soon as possible.”
The project once completed in early 2019 will allow Solomon Island enjoy a much faster and cheaper internet services.
Since the signing of the deal, locals have welcomed and news and are looking forward to its completion.
Government had so far invested more than $3million in the project and the physical is expected to start early September this year once the landing permit is being granted to SISCC.
