The Government through the Public Service Commission has filled three vacant Permanent Secretary Positions for three Ministries Friday last week (August18).
Among the three appointments, one is a female who has recently completed a Masters in Development Policy (International & Sustainable Development).
Ms Karen Barimata Galokale has been appointed as the new PS for the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services (PNSCS).
Prior to her appoint last week, Ms Galokale has held a number of senior positions at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, serving as the Assistant Secretary to Cabinet (ASTC) and most recently as Deputy Secretary to Cabinet (DSTC).
She also holds a Bachelors Law degree from the University of the South Pacific and her career in the Public Service has spanned more than ten years.
Another new Permanent Secretary is Mr Riley Mesepitu who has been appointed to the Ministry of Commerce, Industries Labour and Immigration (MCILI).
Prior to his appointment, Mr Mesepitu has been the Under Secretary of MCILI after the dismissal of the former Permanent Secretary.
He holds a Masters degree in Business and Management from the University of Waikato in New Zealand. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management/Public Administration and Economics from the University of the South Pacific and a Diploma of Business Management/Administration from Cambridge Tutorial College in Britain.
Mr Mesepitu’ s career in the Public has spanned more than 10 years, during which, he has held a number of important positions in MCILI including being a board member in a number of semi-government organisations in the field of Commerce.
Meanwhile, Dr Melchior Mataki has been re-appointed to his previous post as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (ECCDMM).
During his last appointment, Dr Mataki was co-chair of the Solomon Islands Government Oceans12 Task force.
He previously held teaching, research and management positions with the University of the South Pacific and the German International Development Cooperation.
Dr Mataki is an environmental scientist with expertise on waste management, climate change, disaster risk management and environmental management in the Pacific Islands.
He holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry and mathematics, a master’s degree in analytical chemistry and a PhD in Environmental Science.
