SUPERVISING Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga says the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) executives have no power over the management of the Police Credit Union.
Ms Matanga made this clarification on Thursday at the police commissioner’s weekly conference in relation to complaints raised by some of the Credit Union members last year.
“For you information, the Police Credit Union even though it was named the Police Credit Union, the police commissioner and the police executives have no power over its affairs and management,” Ms Matanga clarified.
She said the Credit Union is run by a board that were nominated by its financial members.
“Each year those board members run the affairs of the Credit Union.
“The Commissioner has no power over it,” Ms Matanga said.
She added that the Central Bank of Solomon Islands oversight the operations of the Credit Union.
“Last year, some of the members raised some complaints to the Commissioner thinking he has the authority over the affairs of the Credit Union.”
She said as a result of these complaints, the RSIPF conducted an investigation to look at whether there are some criminal aspects involved in the Credit Union.
