Wife nabbed for injuring hubby
A female suspect has been apprehended Police at Yandina, Russell Islands, in the Central Islands Province (CIP) on Wednesday – 10 January 2018 in connection to a family violence incident.
A police media unit statement said, the alleged incident occured at Ilua settlement on Banika Island.
Yandina Police received the report and responded by attending the scene and apprehended the suspect and took her to Yandina Police Station where she was dealt with.
“Not only women and children can be victims of family violence. Men can also be victims and women can be charged under the Family Protection Act,” said Staff Sergeant Measly Kelo Veets, Operation Manager, Tulagi Police Station.
“It was alleged that the couple had an argument during which the wife allegedly injured her husband on his wrist with a knife,” added Sergeant Kelo.
The victim was rushed to Yandina Clinic and was referred to the National Referral Hospital in Honiara for further medical treatment.
Staff sergeant Kelo said, “This is a serious incident. The suspect was taken to Yandina Police Station where she was served with a Police Safety Notice, (PSN) as police continue to investigate the matter.
“I appeal to both sides not to take the law into their own hands but to assist police with their investigations.”
Wife attacker arrested
A THIRTY-two (32) year-old man has been arrested on Sunday 14 January 2018 for allegedly attacking his wife at Riverside village in Small Malaita.
Police in Malaita Province have conducted the arrest, a police media statement said.
It was alleged the man was under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred last Wednesday – on 10 January 2018.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Timothy Apaesi said, “the report of the alleged attack of the wife by husband is serious as the wife has been admitted at the Afio Rural Health Centre.
“The man will be dealt with under the Family Protection Act, which provides a fine of $30,000 or imprisonment for 3 years, or both,” added Superintendent Apaesi.
The police was expected to bring the man before the Auki Magistrate Court yesterday for a remand application.
Police investigation into the matter continues.
Boat collision leaves 15yr injured
Police in Taro, in Choiseul Province are investigating an alleged collision between two boats at Wagina Island, in North-East Choiseul on 13 January 2018.
A police media statement said, the incident happened at night outside Wagina Island during which a 15-year-old boy was badly injured.
The boy was traveling in a fibre glass boat powered by a 15 horse engine along with four other relatives.
“The victim was lying on top of the fiberglass cabin when the boats collided and he fell into the sea. Luckily the driver quickly turned back and managed to pick him up and took him to Wagina Clinic,” said Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Cider Nevol.
“At the clinic he was referred to Gizo Hospital for medical treatment due to multiple injuries sustained during the incident,” said PPC Nevol.
She added, “My officers are currently investigating the incident and I appeal to the victim’s relatives not to take the law into their own hands but allow the police to investigate the matter. People with information on the incident should come forward and assist the police with their investigation.”

Police witness Manaoba reconciliation
A RECONCILIATION was successfully held on Manaoba Island, in North Malaita with the presence of the police.
A police media statement said, Police in Auki, Malaita Province witnessed the reconciliation ceremony between two parties.
Provincial Police Commander, Malaita Province Superintendent Timothy Apaesi said, “The ceremony was to reconcile two parties who were involved in a row last month over the location of a B-Mobile tower on the Island.”
“It is both parties that requested police to witness the reconciliation ceremony.”
Chiefs, a former Member of Parliament and church leaders were also present during the reconciliation ceremony.
PPC Apaesi added, “The reconciliation involved a prayer, exchange of $500.00 cash and traditional feasting.”
PPC Apaesi thanked both parties for agreeing to reconcile in order to maintain peace in their community.
Man wounded at Marau
Police at Marau in the Guadalcanal Province have apprehended a suspect for wounding a 40-year-old male at One Village, in the Hatare area of Marau Sound over the weekend.
Police alleged that the suspect did strike the victim with an axe on the left side of his head and as a result he fell to the ground.
Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province Superintendent Nixson Manetoga said, “The incident happened on 13 January 2018. Upon receiving the report my officers from Marau attended to the incident and arrested the alleged suspect.
“The suspect was taken to the Marau Police Station and on 14 January was transported to Honiara for further investigation.”
With the assistance of Police at Marau the victim was transported to Marau Clinic and later transferred to the National Referral Hospital in Honiara for further medical assistance.
Superintendent Manetoga said, “The condition of the victim is alleged to be stable and is now in the care of medical authorities.
“I appeal to both sides involved in the incident to refrain from taking the law into their own hands whilst police investigate it. I also appeal to any witness to the incident to come forward with information that could assist police with its investigations,” said PPC Manetoga.
