Honiara residents are once again been reminded to throw their rubbish in the right place.
Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) in a public statement on Monday pointed out that the current inundation of public roads is a direct result of rubbish being thrown into drains and culverts.
“This causes blockage to all water outlets around Honiara,” the statement said.
As witnessed over the past days, the heavy downpour resulted in most parts of the city and feeder roads submerged underwater.
Drainage systems were blocked by debris causing water run-offs to build with intense pressure and eventually poured out into the street roads which Kukum is just one obvious example.
Honiara City Council is also urged to enforce their rubbish collection ordinances and develop sustainable policies to control waste.
In the meantime, MID said soon as the weather clears, the contractors will commence their road maintenance work.
