A CONCERNED bus owner has called on the Honiara City Council (HCC) to clarify to the public whether the buses that were impounded have paid up their fines or have faced the courts.
Speaking to PAOA FM news on condition of anonymity, the bus owner said, last month more than 10 buses were apprehended by Law Enforcement Officers for operating shorter routes, operating without licenses and using fake destination signs.
“My concern is whether these bus owners have paid up their $20,000 fines or whether they went to court for their actions.
“We the public want to know this because it is important for HCC to be transparent when dealing with such cases.
“They should not be silent over this, even if they have paid up their dues. HCC must come out to the public and announce the penalty.”
He added, when the buses were detained overnight, it was big news.
“Now, we don’t know what actions had been taken against these disobedient bus owners. A press statement from the HCC office would help to clear our doubts.”
HCC came up with strict rules on all buses operating within the Honiara city boundary last month.
Some of the buses which disobeyed the rules were caught and detained.
