A TOTAL of 17 buses being seized early this year by the Honiara City Council (HCC) Law Enforcement Officers for breaching the newly implemented long bus route will face court on Thursday.
The buses were impounded for disobeying and operating short bus route instead of the designated long route.
HCC’s Head of Law Enforcement Division, Timothy Ko’ohiwai said that their legal officer will present the case before the Honiara Magistrate Court.
“Our legal officer will hand in the matter before the Honiara Magistrate Court tomorrow (today), as all legal documents have already been finalized,” he said.
He explained these buses have already been charged by HCC, but if the court sees it fit to impose some more charges, then it depends on them.
Mr Ko’ohiwai further explained that a fine of $20,000 would not be imposed.
“But the charge will be imposed according the business ordinance which would be a total of $5000.”
Meanwhile all the buses that have been impounded for using fake sign destination, Mr Timothy said, they did not charge them but issued them with a warning to purchase an original bus sign from Access Plus which was approved by HCC.
“We took their keys, ordered them to purchase an original destination sign from the Access Plus before releasing their keys,” he said.
Most of the 17 buses are locally owned.
