It is great feeling being here in the Solomon Islands, stated Joan Christ, captain of New Caledonia’s AS Magenta that took part in the OFC Champions Group D that ended in Honiara, Friday.
He said they were very happy to be participating in the OFC League competition during the past week.
“Even though we lost our last match against Team Wellington, we have already displayed our strength in a 2-0 victory in the opening match against Lupe Team Samoa last Saturday,” Christ said.
“It is now already one and a half week of staying here at Honiara Hotel and we really enjoyed the smiling and friendly faces of the Solomon Islands people,” he added
“Some of us have already been here so this is now our second time to come here.
“Those coming here for the first time have appreciated the experience.
“We all felt at home because we are also Melanesians.”
The team captain said they want to go around and visit some places in Honiara but they don’t have enough time.
He said they have visited the Point Cruz business area, the Central Market and the China Town area.
He said one thing that they’ve noticed in Honiara is the city does not have many big buildings and shopping malls.
However, he said they were impressed with the passion that our soccer fans in the country had in supporting our team.
Christ said they will take with them home the many experiences they came across here.
“I want to acknowledge the event’s organizing committee for the hospitality.
“As the team captain, I want to praise the Solomon Islands government through SIFF for making our stay here a successful one.”
