A MALAITAN man is calling on the long serving Members in Parliament (MPs) to retire and give way for young potential leaders a chance to contest the 2019 National General Election.
Daniel Aba told the Solomon Star in Auki in an interview that Solomon Islands is celebrating its 40th years anniversary this year and it needs some new leaders to lead the country forward.
Mr. Aba said leaders who served for the past four to five terms in parliament but fail to bring about any positive change in the country should surrender their position as MPs because they have nothing left to prove to the country.
“Some MPs are there for the past eight, twelve, or even sixteen years in parliament.
“I think these MPs have outlived their time in power.
“I believe there are some good young potential leaders out there in the constituencies that have the capabilities to lead us forward, but because they compete against the long serving popular MPs, they don’t have a chance to win.
“If only the long serving MPs give way for our young potential leaders, I believe some will come into power and lead our country forward to prosperity for the next 40 years or so,” he added.
Mr. Aba said, long serving MPs should retire and enjoy their pensions and give way for young leaders to lead the country forward.
