Police at Gizo in Western Province is investigating the sudden death of a 30-year-old male inmate at the Correctional Services Solomon Islands (CSSI) Centre at Malakerava on Tuesday, 24 July 2018.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Chief Superintendent, Mathias Lenialu, said it is alleged that the deceased complained of a chest pain but shortly after he collapsed and became unconscious.
“CSSI officers rushed the deceased to the Gizo Hospital but not long after he arrived at the Hospital he was pronounced dead by medical authorities at the Hospital on the morning of 24 July 2018.”
Currently police officers are investigating the death of the inmate and appealed to the relatives of the deceased to refrain from taking the law in to their own hands and allow police to investigate this sudden death incident, said Superintendent Lenialu.
“We are working close with the family of the deceased to conduct a post mortem to confirm the cause of death.”
The deceased was serving a three-year prison term after being convicted of an armed robbery incident at Kariki, in the Shortland Islands.
