STUDENTS studying at the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Honiara have voiced out their complaints on the continuous bad smell coming out from a leak septic tank at the Lawson Tama campus.
The complaint was raised at the student’s forum last week as no work has been done by responsible authority to fix it.
One of the concern students during the forum said the problem of the septic tank started since last year and until now no work has been done to address the matter.
He said it is against their health to do their studies in such environment and called on the USP administration to seriously consider and do some work.
Pauline Tamaninuve from the USP’s Student Learning Support said the issue of the leak septic has truly affected the students but she assured the students that they have agreed with the Honiara City Council to fix the problem.
“Currently the issue is out of our control but we have reached up to the Honiara City Council and soon in our next forum we will update you again on the progress,” she said.
Meanwhile, USP Student Association Solomon Islands President Robert Tahi said USP will fund the work on the septic but the HCC will do the work especially in terms of planning and construction of a new septic.
“According to our Director, USP will be the main funder of the work but it has contracted it to HCC as the owner of the area and that they will know in terms of planning for the area for the septic relocation,” he added.
