APOSTOLIC Nuncio to Papua New Guinea & Solomon Islands H.E Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal has paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Rick Hou yesterday.
In a brief meeting with the Prime Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister & Cabinet, H.E Vayalunkal thanked the Prime Minister for availing his time to meet with him.
He also thanked the Prime Minister for taking time off his busy schedule to attend the historical consecration of the first local Bishop Most Reverend Peter Houhou in Auki over the weekend.
“It was an exciting event and I thank you for gracing the occasion,” he said.
His Excellency Vayalunkal also shared with the Prime Minister the importance of Christian values in leadership.
He said the Catholic Church will always pray for the Government and people of Solomon Islands.
Mr Hou in response has conveyed his gratefulness in witnessing the consecration of Bishop Houhou over the weekend.
He said it was indeed a significant occasion not only for the Catholic Church but the Solomon Islands as a whole.
“It was a historical event and I was privileged and pleased to witness and be part of the celebrations,” he said.
The Prime Minister re-emphasized the need for the Government and churches to continue to work together.
The Apostolic Nuncio was also accompanied to the OPMC by the Archbishop of Honiara Christopher Cardone and the General Secretary of the Catholic Bishop Conference in PNG Father Giogio Licini.
