POLICE at Taro in Choiseul Province are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at the Kutu logging camp, east of the island that resulted in one death and two injuries on 10October 2018.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria says the incident claimed the life of a male person in his 30’s from Lulimekolo Village.
“The group of seven local men were allegedly having a few beers after work at Dudurana log pond,” Mr Eria said.
“After finishing their drinks they decided to travel to a nearby village to buy more,” he added.
“It was reported that on their way the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the vehicle going off the road into the bush causing the death of a passenger and injuring two others.”
Superintendent Eriasaid the driver was arrested and remanded in custody to appear in the Gizo Magistrates Court on 29 October 2018.
“On behalf of the police, I wish to extend our condolences and sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased for the untimely loss of one of their members.
“I call on all parties involved in this incident to allow the police to progress its investigation into the matter and not to take the law into their own hands.”
Police warn employees, members of the public and responsible owners of vehicles and drivers to stop drink and drive and the common trend of unauthorised use of company, private and government vehicles for such illegal purposes.
