A CHIEF from Tikopia and his delegation has returned to Honiara last Friday, from their two weeks mission to France.
Chief Gifty Tinamo and other chiefs representing other tribes in Tikopia went there to view a Tikopia documentary at the Paris cinema, God Planet Foundation.
In an interview with one of the delegates, Mike Onomarie, he said that the mission is indeed a success for the chiefs.
Our trip to France was not only to represent Tikopia but the whole country as well, because the flag of Solomon Islands was raised during our time there.
Mr Onomarie added that while in France, they met with leaders from organisations and politicians, where they discussed about the climate change issue that is currently affecting the Solomon Islands.
He said that many organisations have shown interest to help the country fight against climate change and their threats to the lives of local Solomon Islanders.
“Organisations in France told us that they will help us build sea wall to stop sea level rise from coming into our islands.”
Mr Onomarie said that apart form that, they were invited to return to France on June 2019, to attend the indigenous people rights conference.
“All in all, the people of France were happy to see the documentary and at the same time saw our chief, who is one of the main characters in the video documentary.”
Speaking to the Solomon Star, former Temotu VATUD MP, Freda Tuki who is very supportive behind the mission said that the trip was really fruitful.
Ms Tuki supports the Chiefs trip to France through financial assistance.
