POLICE in Western province have continued with their investigations following the death of a new born baby around New Year’s Day.
Police Commissioner Mathew Varley said following the investigation, the mother of the baby has been arrested.
“Although details are coming in, it was alleged that the mother delivered the new born baby around new year’s day and it seems that she then killed the infant,” he said.
Mr Varely said at this stage, investigation is still continuing and the mother has been arrested by police on Wednesday 3rd January and will face court very soon.
He said it’s a tragic case and a very sad one, which police need to get to the bottom of it.
“I just want to urge people not to take matters into their own hands in the communities but allow police investigation to continue,” he said.
He said police want people in the community who might have information to come forward to assist them with their investigation.
The incident occurred on Ranonnga island.
