TEMOTU ARROWS U16 team is leading the group A of the Youth Solomon Cup currently underway at Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Academy.
The Arrows took the lead after defeating Isabel Frigates with an impressive 6-1 victory in their opening match, Tuesday.
They took the lead 3-0 in the first half followed by another three goals in the second half.
Frigates found the back of the net later in the second half but was no match for Arrows who were already comfortable with a 4-1 lead before extending with another two goals.
Temotu Arrows coach Eddie Thruman was impressed with the opening win and congratulated his players for a job well done, however admitted they need to improve more in their remaining group matches to maintain the top spot.
“It’s a job well done for my players.
“They played well and got a good result which will help motivate them for our remaining matches.
“There are still areas that we need to work more on and we must step up in our remaining matches to remain atop group A,” he said.
Frigates coach, Rathana thanked Temotu for a good match against his young inexperienced side, saying the match helps them see areas they need to work on for their remaining games.
“First I would like to thank Temotu Arrows for a very good match.
“As a young and inexperienced side we learn a lot from this match.
“We will work on that in the coming days and take one match at a time,” he said.
Group A’s opening match saw Makira U16 edged their way past a determined Renbel side 2-0.
In Group B Central Islands defeated Guadalcanal 4-2 and Malaita defeated Honiara 3-2.
However Guadalcanal was announced winners since Central Islands fielded an ineligible player.
