VOTERS list for the upcoming national elections is expected to be finalised and approved tomorrow.
That’s according to Chief Electoral Officer Mose Saitala.
“My officers will try to get the voters final list onto our website this weekend,” Saitala told reporters, Wednesday.
“So by next week, the final list should be available for the public to view,” he added.
Saitala said the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) is conscious the voters’ final list will raise a few eyebrows.
“It is going to trigger a number of things because we have the final list of electors and that means we are now going into the real phase of preparing for the national election.”
He added releasing the final list will also mark the end of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) process that has started since September 2018.
Saitala said a lot of other activities will shortly be carried out by the SIEC in terms of preparations.
“A lot has been done by our officers like assembling of kits according to different constituencies and polling stations,” he said.
He said the upcoming elections will see a big jump in terms of the number of polling stations, which would require more resources.
“We have about 890 polling stations during the 2014 elections, but this time it certainly be more than 1, 000,” he said.
Not only that, Saitala said the 2019 elections will also see a big jump in terms of the electoral roll so they will ensure there are enough polling stations to accommodate all voters.
Meanwhile, he said by next week, details of information with regards to the provisional lists and how many have been taken would also be provided.
