TRANSPARENCY Solomon Islands has commended the government for listening to public outcry to resource the National Referral Hospital.
“This is welcoming news to note that the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement approved $17 million for the complex to house the Computer Tomography (CT) Scan machine,” a TSI statement said.
“TSI applauds government and wishes to reiterate its call last year on the importance of prioritizing government spending,” it added.
“An area that is in dire need is our National Referral Hospital instead of channeling public funds to the Constituency Development Fund.”
TSI said DCGA’s approval of $17 million depicted a picture of a government concerned about its citizens and is prepared to do something to ensure that its citizens do get better health services.
“This machine is a first of its kind and it important for NRH doing x-ray using the latest technology.
“Transparency Solomon Islands urges the government to continue resourcing our National Referral Hospital.
“We believe that with the right resources, our hospital can provide the same services provided by any world class hospital.
“That the National Referral Hospital can one day be able to provide the type of services that we usually sought overseas.
“Whilst we applaud the government for this planned improvement to our national hospital, we wish to remind the government to also upgrade provincial hospitals and clinics, to resource them with modern medical equipment, medications and to employ trained and experience doctors and nurses to ensure patients at the rural areas received quality health services as well.”
