A delegation from the Choiseul Provincial Government on Monday met with Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to discuss the Province’s priority development programmes.
The delegation was led by Premier Watson Qoloni.
The delegation included eight executive members, three government backbenchers, the Provincial Secretary and the Choiseul Bay Township Project Manager.
The face-to-face meeting was aimed at informing the prime minister of the province’s priority development programmes which needs the attention of the national government.
One of the top priority projects discussed was the Choiseul Bay township project which is now at the verge of implementation but was delayed due the reprioritization of government policies and processes.
Despite lack of funding allocation for the project in 2018, Premier Qoloni said his executive continues to implement some phases of project.
These included the engagement of a highly qualified and experienced Project Manager and the development of a local planning scheme which was gazetted for the Choiseul Bay Township project.
This is a legal document that provided guidance and a framework for the proper management and development control of the new township.
Other activities that were implemented by the Provincial Government included the engagement of a local survey firm that carried out a subdivision design of the new township which is expected to be completed by this month.
Other essential components of the project includes water supply and energy, road networks and bridges, waste management and other essential services which requires continued support through mobilization of expertise and funds.
Premier Qoloni said this major project will contribute immensely to nation building, attain rural development and deliver positive impacts to the livelihood of the people of Choiseul and is envisaged to boost economic development in the country.
Another priority subject discussed is border security which the Choiseul Provincial Government has endorsed and agreed to accommodate the proposed national Border Management Center.
Prime Minister Sogavare noted the issues raised and assured the Choiseul delegation that he will ensure responsible government agencies recommit sufficient resources to ensure these priority programmes are achieved.
