Murder accused to face High Court tomorrow
THE man accused of the murder of another man at Renbel Province in April will be facing the High Court for the first time tomorrow.
Bruno Sapa who faces one count of murder made his last appearance in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court this week.
His matter was already committed to the High Court for trial after a short form preliminary inquiry was conducted at a previous court date.
But since he is to appear in the High Court at the end of the month, he was brought again to the Magistrates’ Court this week.
This is for a magistrate to extend his remand warrant since he is in custody and has to be brought to the court after every 14 days.
Sapa will face the High Court tomorrow for mention.
The 45-year-old is facing the murder of a 19 year-old man on April 2, at Pauta Village on Bellona Island.
Prosecution alleged Sapa attacked the deceased following an argument between them, which resulted in his death.
Public Solicitor’s lawyer Stanley Aupai represents Sapa while Public Prosecutor John Wesley Zoze is appearing for the Crown.
Suspended officer to be sentenced
THE on-suspension police officer who accepted a $200 bribe from bus driver and his conductor back in 2015 will be sentenced this afternoon.
The matter of Nelson Isogeto who was convicted after a trial in 2017 was listed for sentence before Deputy Chief Magistrate Ricky Iomea at 1.30pm today.
Isogeto matter was remitted back to the Honiara Magistrates’ Court for sentence.
He had filed an appeal following his conviction in 2017 in the High Court.
A High Court judge however was of the view to have the matter remitted and completed with the sentencing at Magistrates’ Court before an appeal can be filed in the High Court.
The judge then made an order for the remittal of this matter back to the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.
Isogeto was charged in relation to the incident that occurred at a refuelling station in Honiara in 2015.
The bus driver and his conductor gave Isogeto $200 when Isogeto approached them and inquired about a defective rear park light of the bus.
After being given $200, the accused did not press charges against the bus driver and his conductor.
The Public Solicitor’s Office is representing Isogeto while the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions appears for the Crown.
