THE Foreign Relations Committee last week completed its maiden inquiry into the question of severing of Solomon Islands existing ties with the Republic of China (Taiwan).
There has been a rich discussion surrounding the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DCCG) efforts to review its current policy including conduction of examinations and analysis on its existing relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan) and prospects for normalizing relations with the Peoples Republic of China.
The inquiry process has attracted a lot of interest and keen discussions by witnesses who have been invited.
The chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Peter Kenilorea Jnr reiterated that the Committee within the auspices of Parliament, avails such appropriate space for citizens to make contributions and influence national decision making.
Focusing on the “question of severing an existing tie”, the committee hopes to produce a timely report with recommendations to Parliament.
The Committee continues to call for written submissions from the public until the 30th of September 2019.
