THE East Makira Constituency is set to hold its by-election by the end of this year.
This is to elect a new Member of Parliament for the constituency following the passing on of their winning MP, Late Charles Maefai just after the April election.
The by-election will fall on the same date as the Makira Provincial election.
Chief Electoral Officer Mose Saitala told the paper yesterday the Ministry of Finance & Treasury has already assured him that funds for the by-election will be ready by next month.
Saitala said as soon as the funds are ready, the Electoral office will begin the count down to the date set for the election.
He said old candidates are welcomed to contest the East Makira Parliamentary seat as well as new or interested candidates as long as they are registered voters in that constituency.
Mr Saitala said the Governor General, the Rt Rev. David Vunagi will later officially announce the by-election date.
