Governor General (GG) Sir Rt Rev David Vunagi has been installed as the Seventh Chief Scout of the Solomon Islands Scout Association (SISA).
Sir Rt Rev David was installed on Thursday by the Solomon Islands’ Scout Association (SISA) with the assistance of visiting top officials from the Asia Pacific Regional Office of World Organisation of the Scout Movement, based in Manila, Philippine, a statement from SISA Media and Communication said.
Chief Commissioner of Solomon Islands Scout Association Joe Billy Oge said the installation was only possible after Sir David accepted an invitation by SISA to be the Chief Scout.
Under the SISA constitution, the Governor-General is the chief scout.
Oge said the installation was also happening when members of the Asia Pacific Regional Office of World Organisation of the Scout Movement based in Manila were also in Honiara which allowed them to participate in the ceremony.
Japanese, Hiroshi Shimada, the vice-chairman of Asia Pacific Regional Office of World Organisation of the Scout Movement and New South Wale’s Chief Commissioner of NSW Scouts, Neville Tomkins, took part in the installation of the Governor-General.
In accepting the invitation, Sir David said he hoped to see the Scout Movement in the Solomon Islands be alive again and to be robust.
Oge said the SISA is looking forward to working closely with Sir David as they work together to revive the scout movement in the country.
He said with assurance from Pacific Regional Office of World Organisation of the Scout Movement, the SISA will be working hard to ensure that the movement is strengthened to attract more members to join.
He added that they are now working on the governance side of the movement and soon big announcements will be made about the appointments of some key personnel to move the association forward.
