More than 1000 people including students have attended Ash Wednesday celebration at Visale parish in North West Guadalcanal on Wednesday.
Northwest Guadalcanal Solomon Star stringer John Toki said the celebration was a successful one based on the theme, ‘Turn to the God.’
The service was officiated by Fr John Peter Varea.
He explained the celebration was the beginning of the annual Lenten seasons for the Catholic believers and other Christian believers.
Fr John said the celebration was commemorated to encourage Christians to turn to God for protection to guide them as they move on in life.
“Today is a day to be reminded about repeating from our past ungodly deeds and turn back to God,” he said.
He further expressed that this period of the Lenten season is to join the universal churches in promoting peace and looking to God.
He highlighted three important things that Christians must do when doing the gospel work which including giving, praying and fasting.
Fr John highlighted that Christianity is about sharing, helping people and creating changes to their lives.
