NORTH Malaita Constituency Office has launched its phase two housing project in North Malaita on Monday 24th Feb 2020.
The phase two launching ceremony was attended by the member of Parliament for the constituency Levi Senley Filualea, his Project officer, Ward Admin officers, Timber Milling operation team and resources owners.
At the launching program, Mr. Filualea sincerely thank and acknowledge the house owners for their commitment and seriousness in securing trees and logs for the housing project.
According to Filualea, phase two of the housing project involves milling of timbers and construction of building structures up to the roofing stage.
He highlighted that the housing project is a very expensive exercise and phase two demands more commitment from house owners and communities to provide free manpower and availing of resources to assist in reducing building costs.
“Phase one of the housing project was already successfully completed with columns for 185 houses and it is hoped that by the end of this year the 185 houses should be covered with roofing iron,” he said.
Mr. Filualea also calls on all constituents to work together to implement the housing project.
“This is an ongoing project and soon others will join the queue, therefore unity is the key binding factor to achieve the objectives of this project,” he said.
He said apart from phase two, some have already got certain building materials such as timbers and some already have roofing irons and that the constituency office will only provide the needed assistance to complete their houses.
He added, for those who have nothing at all, the office will easily provide for them step by step until their houses are complete.
Mr. Filualea said the North Malaita housing scheme was funded under SIG grant assistance through the Rural Constituency Development Fund (RCDF) assistance.
The objective of this housing project is to ensure housing in the rural communities is supported, well designed, affordable and soundly constructed. This project once completed will result in well-designed standard housing for all.
