The Australian High Commission in Honiara on Monday donated a batch of personal hygiene kits to the National Disaster Operation Center.
The kits contain sanitary items such as; toilet tissues, shaving gear, soap, cleaning detergent, Colgate, toothbrush, face mask, and gloves.
Speaking when handing over the items Australian High Commissioner His Excellency Dr. Lachlan Strahan said his office is happy to be of assistance during this time when the country is going through this difficult situation.
“Other things we are watching very carefully are food supplies, the maintenance of basic utilities such as power, water and we are quietly talking to the government saying we got to make sure all these staple products continue to function and available,” said Dr. Strahan.
He said this type of preparatory work is very important.
Dr. Strahan acknowledged that since we share the same body of water, for Australia the Pacific is right in front of their eyes, something no other country has in that kind of context.
He concluded by making further assurances that his office stands ready to assist and he can be contacted anytime, anywhere to discuss issues relating to the current situation.
Responding to the gesture from the Australian people, Director NDMO and Chairman of N-DOC Mr. Loti Yates assured His Excellency that all sectors in the committee are working very hard and are thankful for the assistance.
The Kit has been packed and are ready to be distributed to the various quarantine sites as of today.
