Malaita Provincial Government is exercising zero tolerance for corrupt practices
Since taking office, Malaita Alliance for Rural Advancement (MARA) government has sacked four senior workers, one female and three males for abuse of office and outright corruption.
The four senior workers who received their marching orders under the current MARA government were from the Tourism Division, Town Council, and Revenue Divisions in the Malaita Provincial Government’s job establishment.
Coming into power under the slogan ‘Iu mi togeta buildim Malaita’ which can be translated to ‘Together we build Malaita’, Premier Suidani and PS Fa’abasua are keen to set Malaita in order.
Accordingly, one of the main agendas is to patch loopholes in the provincial government system which entertain corruption and fix them.
One way of fixing these loopholes is the sacking and termination of corrupt officials who are found to entertain corrupt practices, the premier said.
The sacking of the four senior provincial officials is purposely to send a message to everyone that the current provincial administration does not tolerate corrupt and other mal-practices, it was highlighted.
According to Premier Suidani, MARA government has no room for corruption and those found to engage in such practices are sure to be shown the exit door.
“The MARA government wants to set records straight for this province and it has no room for corruption,” the premier said.
He added that it is his administration’s expectation that workers perform their duties with honesty and integrity in accordance with the province’s work ethics and regulatory requirements.
He stressed that anyone found abusing his powers for personal gains is to be dealt with accordingly.
Premier Suidani said that the sacking of the senior workers should serve as a warning and reminder to all provincial employees to serve their province with loyalty and honesty.
“Workers are paid salaries to work and serve with dignity, not to abuse and corrupt their positions and offices,” he added.
