NON-examination classes in both the primary and secondary schools throughout the provinces will join the rest of the secondary examination classes to proceed with their normal classes as of the 4th of May 2020.
Under Secretary and Chair of COVID-19 Communications Committee in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development James Basamata confirmed this during the ministry’s Radio Education program on Wednesday.
This means classes for all primary and Early Childhood Education (ECE) will commence next Monday.
Bosamata said the resumption of classes only applies for schools within non-emergency zones and will exclude all schools in Honiara, Guadalcanal, and Western Provinces which have been declared emergency zones.
He said the decision was made following the committee’s assessment of the current COVID-19 situation.
“Therefore all boarding students and teachers should make their way to their schools as of this week.
“With that, it means all Early Childhood Education classes, primary and forms one, two, and four students within the non-emergency zones and non-high risk zones should begin normal classes on 4th May 2020,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said schools in Western Province (F3,5, and 6) have resumed classes on Monday 27 April except for schools around Munda, Noro, Gizo, and Shortlands.
“All schools in Guadalcanal are still closed,” he said.
