The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Executive committee and Secretariat has thanked the local organising committee (LOC), the government through the Ministry of Home Affairs and Prime Minister Office, other partners APCO, NHA for a successful hosting of the 2020 Solomon Cup.
SIFF president, William Lai said the 2020 Solomon Cup is a historic one as a record crowd attended flocked Lawson Tama to watch the matches particularly the more than 20 thousand who watched the final and the record 1.4 people reached via Facebook live streaming.
“It was a great football festival during the two weeks of the Solomon Cup,” he said.
“Thank you to all the players, team officials, LOC and our key stakeholders.
“We should be proud of football that it brings us together despite our diverse cultures.
“Congratulations to all the participating teams and Western Tomoko for being the champions.”
SIFF CEO Leonard Paia shared the same sentiments by acknowledging everyone who has played a key role in the success of the Solomon Cup.
“May I take this opportunity to thank you all for the excellent job done in ensuring that the 2020 Solomon Cup has ended successfully,” he said.
“Thank you Chair and Vice-Chair of LOC for your team and the excellent leadership that you had shown throughout the tournament. Thank you also, President William Lai and your executive for all the support”.
The success of the national tournament would not be possible without the staff on the ground who deals with the operational duties daily.
“I salute also the SIFF staff, security personnel, stewards, referees, competition coordinators, media team, groundsmen, cooks, cleaners, women clubs who had assisted with the cleaning up of Lawson Tama after each match, ball boys, and volunteers for the excellent teamwork demonstrated throughout the tournament. You deserve to be congratulated for a job well done,” Paia lauds the staff.
The national government-supported SIFF through the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Hosting Authority for the 2023 Pacific Games, the Prime Minister’ss Office and the Solomon Islands Royal Police Force (RSIPF).
“Big thank you to our main sponsor, the Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs,
other partners such as NHA, DJ Graphic, Apco Paint, Solrais, and Telekom for supporting football in the country,” he added.
“A special and BIG THANK YOU to our Solomon Islands Royal Police Force and Honiara City Police for their support and especially for providing their 123 officers during the grand final and ensure that the finals ended peacefully”.
The SIFF boss also thank all PFA teams who had provided the entertaining football that capitulates the wildest imaginations of their die-hard supporters from simple street sweepers to the highest honourable dignitaries who faithfully grace Lawson Tama National Stadium over the past 12 days of football festivity.
