PRESIDENT of the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), William Lai says the recent groundbreaking for the new Futsal and indoor sports complex is a milestone achievement.
Lai told the media that the time has come for futsal to have a home following many promises done over the past years.
“This is great news because in the Solomon Islands there has been too much talking and no action.
“But today I witness that it has finally come true and I want to thank the government for making it possible despite the challenges faced.”
For SIFF, the ultimate goal for the Pacific Games 2023 is to get gold for the country, he added.
They have started their program in preparation for the Pacific Games 2023 and the FIFA World Cup is part of that.
Having a futsal facility will surely help SIFF achieve that aim and to host big futsal competitions.
“With the facility, I believe that in the future we will be able to host more tournaments and therefore the chances to go to the world cup will be maintained.
“It’s an important milestone for sport, especially football, the futsal code and we look forward to the completion for this project,” he said.
Lai added football will be in a better position to do better and also create the chance to market futsal players overseas in the future.
Marketing of players abroad is SIFF’s next phase of the development program to get more players actively involved in football and create employment.
The new futsal facility will take around 14 months to complete.
